Phalanxes are an enemy in Deadzone: Rogue.
Phalanxes have glowing red vents on their back, as well as a red light on the centre of their chest. These act as their weakpoints. They also carry a shield that blocks bullets and melee attacks.
Phalanxes will move directly toward the player, stopping occasionally to lower their shield and aim at the player. After a short delay, the Phalanx will fire a powerful barrage of fast-moving bolts before raising its shield again and reloading.
Up to one Phalanx can appear in rooms from Security Level 4. Up to two Phalanxes will appear in most rooms from Security Levels 5 to 8. They are stationary unless provoked.
Strategy
- Phalanxes are very dangerous enemies. Use stealth to scout out their positions, and make heavy use of cover to break line of sight. Don't exit cover until the barrage finishes or until the Phalanx begins to move on the minimap if you can't see the barrage.
- The shield doesn't cover the Phalanx's head and legs. Firing at these points with an accurate weapon from a distance is the safest way to eliminate Phalanxes.
- If attacked from behind, a Hellstorm or Rampage is able to destroy a Phalanx before it fires a barrage. Due to the high amounts of damage this requires and the Phalanx's ability to kill the player in a single barrage at higher difficulties, this is very risky.
- Be aware that melee attacks have a weird interaction with the shield hitbox, frequently being "blocked" even if you are hitting an un shielded part but are standing too close.
