The Tribes: Ascend/Chain Gun is an automatic projectile weapon used by the Doombringer class in Tribes: Ascend.

"The most powerful of the automatic weapons found in the Wilderzone, the Chaingun is relentless, with no need to reload." In-Game Description.

Operation

The Tribes: Ascend/Chain Gun has a short to medium range due to bullet spread. It is a medium-speed projectile based weapon that should not be confused with a hitscan weapon. The Tribes: Ascend/Chain Gun has a 1.4 second spin-up delay but comes in return without the need to ever reload the weapon. Every bullet that connects will do a large 95 damage. Connecting a chain of bullets will quickly eliminate the enemy due to the rate of fire being 9.5 bullets per second (after spin-up). However, similarly to the X1 LMG, the Chain Gun has a very large spread (note the screen shaking during prolonged fire) therefore it severely reduces its effectiveness at range.

Also, it's possible to keep this weapon spun up without firing, reducing the delay until the chaingun is ready to start shooting. Simply start clicking your mouse until the gun seems to be spinning near the speed that it would normally begin firing. The same can be done with the Chain Cannon .
