A Conduit is a gameplay device in Tribes: Ascend. It is a column of energy that allows free use of the players' jetpacks while inside. Any player may use a conduit, on either team. They are not tied to the generator like other base assets so they never shut down.

History

Conduits are a new device in the Tribes series; designed to help overcome the problem of new players and those in heavy armor being unable to re-enter the base. In past games, designers often added ledges or floating platforms to help players who had difficulty jetpacking. These methods are still used on some Tribes: Ascend maps. On Crossfire for example, the front (or port) side of the ships have floating platforms leading from a hillside up to them, while the opposite side has a conduit (pictured).

Tactics

While in a Conduit jetpacking is unlimited, although you are still affected by gravity. This means that if you jet upwards the same amount that gravity pulls you down, you can effectively float forever. Using this tactic, players can hover above rooms with conduits and either defend or attack them by firing down while remaining relatively safe. Flag holders can also use this strategy to protect the enemy flag until the team's own flag is returned.

Maps

The following CTF maps currently use Conduits:
