The Fusion Mortar is a ballistic explosive weapon used by the Juggernaut class in Tribes: Ascend.

"Perhaps the most destructive hand held weapon in the wilderzone. The fusion mortar can turn almost any defense into instant rubble." In-game Description.

Operation

When fired the Fusion Mortar launches a green-smoking explosive round at long range. After a short delay the round will detonate on impact. If this delay has not been reached the round will bounce or roll. The Mortar causes massive damage to anything in range, with a wide radius. Killing an enemy at long range with this weapon will earn an Artillery Strike accolade.

Tactics

Always try and use the Fusion Mortar to clear enemy flagstands and hold chokepoints, as you will almost certainly damage or even kill any unsuspecting enemy. You can fire the Fusion Mortar from extreme ranges, negating the need of getting close. If you will go fight the enemy close up, the Fusion Mortar is beastly inside, as there is not much room to dodge the blast. Always aim where you could inflict the most damage.

When attacked by a Fusion Mortar-wielding Juggernaut, look for the highly-visble contrails of the mortar projectile, making it easy to dodge even for a heavy class. when indoors always move towards the Juggernaut in order to restrict space between you and him, heavily reducing the effectiveness of the Fusion Mortar lest he damage himself.
