The Tribes: Ascend/Spinfusor is an explosive weapon used by almost all classes in the game Tribes: Ascend.

Operation

The Tribes: Ascend/Spinfusor has a relatively slow fire rate because it must be reloaded after each shot. The shots themselves also travel at a medium velocity, allowing them to be dodged. However, it should be noted that when the Tribes: Ascend/Spinfusor shots make contact with something they deal damage in an area of effect with a good amount of damage being dealt at the point of contact.

Lore

Another invention from the Forge of Hephaestus, the disk launcher uses existing mag-lev technology to create a fearsome magnetic cannon, colloquially referred to as the “disker.” Spinning up a magnetic “spinfusor” disk, the launcher can then fire it at extremely long distances. Few weapons can match the Stormhammer, as many tribes refer to it, for the amount of destruction it can deal.Sierra Entertainment (1998). Starsiege: Tribes Manual.

Tactics

This tactics section is intended to be for all Spinfusor Type weapons.

  • Outside:

When using the Tribes: Ascend/Spinfusor either you, your target, or both will most likely be in motion, and this must be accounted for. You have a better chance of hitting your target when they are close to the ground, so if your target is using a jetpack estimate where and when they will land and plan your shot accordingly. If you are in motion then note that your Tribes: Ascend/Spinfusor shots will retain your momentum when you fire them. If you are confident of your aim, direct hits in mid-air with the discs will quickly change the tide of the duel, dealing damage where usually it would be very difficult to.

  • Inside:

The Tribes: Ascend/Spinfusor is a particularly deadly weapon to both you and your targets in close quarters because of its area of effect. Your target will probably be jetpacking around, touching the ceiling, so shoot whichever surface your opponent(s) are nearest to. If you are uncomfortable doing this then replicate the tactic used outdoors and try to eyeball where your target will land, and shoot there. Be careful when your target is close to you as you may take just as much damage from your shots as they do. If you are hit by a Tribes: Ascend/Spinfusor explosion then you will be propelled away from the epicenter in addition to taking damage. This effect may be fatal in generator rooms that contain pits, so be sure to jetpack if you are knocked back in such a place and avoid the pits. Also, if one has enough health, he can fire his own explosive weapon at a pit's wall to propel himeslf back up.
